THE NOKIA N93 MULTIMEDIA MOBILE PHONE

Design: Shunjiro Eguchi 2004–2006

The Nokia N93 combines a mobile phone, Internet browser and a high-quality still/video camera in a compact mobile device equally easy to use as both phone and camera.

As the world’s leading manufacturer of mobile phones, Nokia worked to develop multimedia services as applications constructed into mobile phones. Games, web services, images and music are all available for the mobile phone.

The Nokia N93 combines a mobile phone, Internet browser and a high-standard camera in a compact mobile device. Particular attention has been focused in the camera – a feature that is only a handy gimmick in many other phones, but does not meet the requirements of a ”real” camera.

The N93’s camera is of a real digital camera standard. The optics are of top quality and include a zoom. The camera’s 3.2 megapixel resolution permits high-standard images either for video or as ordinary photographs. The pictures can be edited with the device, which can be connected directly to a television set or computer for viewing or transferring images also wirelessly – a feature lacking in ordinary cameras.

A handy feature is the phone’s turning display, serving photography or when using the phone for browsing the Internet or watching videos. The device is of a neutral, matter-of-fact appearance, and it does not look too technical or difficult to use. The operating logic is distinct and consistent in the Nokia manner, and there are no compromises: the device works equally well as both phone and camera.
