Product development for the Rocla pallet trucks focused on improving usability and safety. A new feature is customization according to the client’s brand: company logos etc. can be printed on the sides of the truck.
Founded in 1942, Rocla Plc is a listed Finnish company with core operations in providing intelligent solutions and services for the handling of materials. Rocla develops, manufactures and markets warehouse trucks and automated truck systems, in addition to producing total services covering their lifespan. Alongside its own brand, Rocla also makes trucks under the Caterpillar and Mitsubishi brands.
Europe is Rocla’s main market area, and North and South America and Asia are also of growing importance. In recent years, the company has reinforced its own direct channels of distribution in its nearby markets in Finland, Scandinavia and Russia. In 2006, Rocla Plc’s turnover was € 104.4 million, and the company had 489 employees.
Trucks are working machinery used for long periods without interruption. The requirements of ergonomics and the ease and pleasantness of work are emphasized when working for long periods. Product development for the Rocla pallet trucks focused on improving usability and safety while maintaining the overall professional and businesslike appearance of the trucks.
The pallet trucks have a driving platform and are suited to even demanding use. The sturdy platform ensures a good position for the driver and its ergonomic mat reduces the strain of standing. Cushioned side bars provide comfort for use and support. They can be turned aside and the driving platform can be raised in cramped locations. When the bars are raised the truck will move more slowly than when they are lowered. This is also a safety consideration. The steering device is ergonomic and can be easily used to control the truck. The body, sides and bumpers of the truck are sturdy, which reduces damages in collisions and improves durability even in heavy use. A wide range of accessories is available for the trucks.
Customization according to the client’s corporate image is also a new feature. Panels on the sides of the truck can be printed with the company logo, brand, colours or similar features, thus making the trucks part of the company’s brand context. This flexible idea has given the manufacturer a considerable competitive advantage. The pallet truck was introduced in 2005 and its demand has at times exceeded the factory’s production capacity
