ROCLA AWT AUTOMATED WAREHOUSE TRUCK

Design: Petteri Masalin, Kero Uusitalo, Jouni Salojärvi 2007
(Product Design Series)

The AWT is the world’s first serially manufactured automated warehouse truck. It is based on the Rocla chassis to which different modules can be added according to the needs of customers. The graphic touch-screen display of the easily-operated truck instructs and warns in advance of any problems.

Rocla has applied design in product development for many years, with visible results. For example, the company’s Humanic reach truck won the Fennia Prize Grand Prix in 2007 and the TP20AC platform pallet truck received an honourable mention in the same competition. The importance of design and related thorough user studies are also reflected in demand for Rocla products.

In 2007 Rocla introduced the first serially produced automated warehouse truck in the world. The AWT is an answer to a shortage of labour. Where routine warehouse work can be automated, personnel become available for more demanding tasks. The truck is based on the Rocla truck chassis, to which different lifting equipment or other modules can be added according to need.

The truck adapts flexibly to the needs of clients both mechanically and with regard to software. It can be taken into use quickly and easily to be included in the existing systems and procedures of warehouses. A new feature is the truck’s large and easily-read touch screen display with symbols providing instructions in case of malfunction and informing the user of service needs.
