ROCLA OYJROCLA PS20RAPID LOW-LEVEL ORDER PICKERDesign: Kero Uusitalo, Petteri Masalin, Mikko Heine 2009 (Product Design Series) Even minor improvements in warehousing will reduce costs. The working space of the order picker was enlarged to let the operator move with more ease and speed. The design of the ergonomic multifunction steering wheel sought inspiration from the world of computer games. Founded in 1942, Rocla is a company specializing in solutions for handling material in warehouses, logistics centres, manufacturing plants and other facilities. In late 2008 Rocla became part of the international Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift Europe corporation. Warehouse trucks are one of Rocla’s product segments. Even minor improvements in the operations of warehouses and logistics centres can have significant impact on increasing productivity and reducing costs. The product development work on Rocla’s new low level order picker was based on extensive user studies. Research shows that the PS20 Rapid improves work efficiency by up to approximately one-fifth. By relocating the battery in the rear part of the truck, the operator’s working area was enlarged from 40 to 60 cm, making movement less restricted and faster than before. The properties preferred by different operators can be tuned and stored in the truck’s memory with PIN codes for individual users. Another innovation was the truck’s multifunction steering wheel. It is ergonomic and a good working position is easy to find. The steering wheel can also be used with one hand and it can be adjusted to operators of different size. Because the truck operators are mostly young men the design of the steering wheel makes reference to the world of video and internet games. The LED lamps are a safety factor when working in dimly lit warehouses. The truck also has storage space for items such as backpacks or water bottles. Like other Rocla products, the PS20 Rapid can easily be customized for the corporate image of clients. Rocla Oyj Jampankatu 2, 04400 Järvenpää Tel. +358 (0)207 7811 www.rocla.com |
