VIVERO OYELLIPSE XL AND M CHAIRSDesign: Timo Ripatti 2008 (Product Design Series) The XL Ellipse chair is sculptural and impressive. Despite this it is light and comfortable to sit on. The seat is made of two similar form-pressed plywood parts and varied with upholstery. The M-sized chair is made from a similar piece by cutting to size and form. The Vivero company of Helsinki has often surprised the public with unconventional furniture, and the XL model of the Ellipse chair is no exception. It is large, sculptural and striking, while also light and comfortable. The chair is of simple construction. The seat is a three-dimensional ellipse made of two similar form-pressed plywood parts. The leg construction is made of steel tubing and it can be removed for transport and storage. This chair is equally suited to homes and public spaces, but requires a spacious setting. It can be upholstered in various ways. The two-coloured version gives it a graphic look, while striped fabric creates a completely different appearance. The M-sized chair of the Ellipse collection is a more conventional small chair, made in the same manner by cutting an ellipse-shaped piece of plywood.
