FENNIA PRIZE 2009

DESIGN – A PART OF BUSINESS

Fennia Prize – Good Design Grows Global gives businesses an opportunity to stand out from their competitors through innovative and responsible design of economic significance.

The Fennia Prize competition is open to companies making designed products or using design in other ways in their business, for example in providing services or in concept design. The competition has two series: the Product Design Series and the Open Series. Business or service concepts and environments are among the entries that can be submitted in the Open Series. The competition is held biennially in odd years.

The Fennia Prize is awarded to companies in recognition of comprehensive and innovative use of design in the design and implementation of products, services and business concepts, product development, manufacturing and corporate image.

The prize jury evaluates the entries with regard to usability, responsibility and business aspects. The members of the jury are representatives of the design, business and media communities, and they make their choices after the decision of a preliminary panel. The core values of design, such as aesthetic properties, suitability to the visual environment and the way in which a product communicates desired values are preconditions for success in the competition.

The prizes of the competition are the Fennia Prize Grand Prix, the Fennia Prize and the Fennia Prize Honourary Mention. The first two include sums of money, and all the prizes entail participation in the Fennia Prize exhibition and its tour and the right to use the competition logo in the marketing and information concerning the prize-winning product.

The registration periord for the competition was 1 May - 31 October 2009. Seventy-two products and concepts were submitted to the competition.
