RECONSIDER DESIGN

Circular economy and design are in the limelight this week in Rovaniemi, with Arctic Design Week. Several events about sustainable design are included in the versatile program of the week. A part of the EcoDesign Circle project, coordinated in Finland by Design Forum Finland, is the exhibition Reconsider Design, opening on Wednesday at Science Centre Pilke. This touring show displays design products, concepts and projects from the Baltic Sea countries, urging into ecological and circular thinking. From Finland on show are Hiilinielu Design Studio, the PuzzlePhone cellphone concept, the recyclable and refundable packaging system RePack and PureWaste, a clothing brand which saves natural resources. In the EcoDesign Sprint workshop participants will learn about circular design with case examples and workshops, while wicked arctic problems are researched in the opening event of the 50 Years Later series of workshops on Tuesday 20 February. AGENCY LEROY IS THE DESIGN AGENCY OF THE YEAR

The Agency of the Year research was carried out for the first time Finland in 2017. In this research, client companies are evaluating service providers they have used, e.g. in categories of design, communications, marketing and media services. Last year, Agency Leroy was among the finalists; the feedback spurred into developing the activities and services, and this year Agency Leroy was awarded with the first place in design agencies.

MORE ARCTIC DESIGN

Arctic Design Week in Rovaniemi is the world's northernmost design event. This year it is arranged for the tenth time, and every year the program is more and more versatile. The main event of the week is the MISMASH conference 21–25 Feb, bringing together both entrepreneurs and companies, and designers. Surely the most original part of the conference is MISHMASH Action, an afternoon when small groups of participants are solving design challenges around the town – also out of doors. The weather forecast promises crisp frosts.

INKA BELL IS GRAPHIC DESIGNER OF THE YEAR

Grafia, the Association of Visual Communication Designers in Finland, has chosen Inka Bell as the Graphic Designer of the Year 2018. Bell is specialized in a traditional method of graphic art, serigraphy, which she complements with digital design. Her works are stripped-down, even minimalist, and often study the three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface. Inka Bell's exhibition is on show at Artek until 24 February.
