UP WITH FINLAND!

Design Forum Finland now at SuomiAreena! This public debate forum, organized every July in Pori by the Finnish Broadcasting Company MTV and the City of Pori, is the meeting place of ideas, opinions and hot topics. This year, one of the panel discussions presents the combination of design and business skills as the new success factor of the future. The discussion is jointly organized by Design Forum Finland and the Union of Sales and Marketing Professionals MMA and takes place on the main stage on Friday 14 July.

The advantages of design expertise are its customer-centered and functional approach, creativity and rapid testing of ideas. Business expertise brings along brand management and skills in sales and marketing. Together, this means competitive edge that will aid Finland straight to the top.

The participants of the discussion are all influencers from the areas of business, science and design: Vice President Carl Haglund / Sunshine Kaidi New Energy Group; Vice President, Customer Experience Design Mikko-Pekka Hanski / Idean Enterprises Inc; futurist Elina Hiltunen / What's Next Consulting Oy; CEO Riitta Huuhtanen / Kalevala Koru Oy; Professor Sixten Korkman / Aalto University, and CEO and Founder Miika Lipiäinen / Kyrö Distillery Company. The discussion is led by digitalist Ville Tolvanen / Digitalist Network.

KOE17

Fashion can be studied at university level in Finland in the Design Institute of the University of Applied Sciences in Lahti, not only in Aalto University. The spring fashion runway show of the students of fashion and clothing design is also part of the curriculum. KOE17 show of 2017 brought both works by undergraduate students and the collections of four fashion design graduates to the runway. The outfits featured both commercial and experimental approaches, future trends, and aspects of gender, identity and ecology. Photo: Fashion by Enni Lähderinne, photographed by Venla Laksola

FOR FASHION'S SAKE

If fashion shows are nearing art, an art museum can exhibit fashion. The Espoo Museum of Modern Art EMMA showcases thirteen Nordic fashion designers whose works push the boundaries of fashion and art. Nature and its elements, the amount and changing of light, and man's relation to nature are combining works and their creators. Shared is also the stretching and reinterpreting the concept of fashion. Photo: Ari Karttunen / EMMA

SUMMER IN FISKARS

If there's time for only one summer exhibition, it almost surely has to be the one in Fiskars. There, an exceptionally fine milieu is complemented with design, fine arts and crafts in a unique way. This year's exhibition is called Greetings from Finland – and though the names of the summer exhibitions are often deceivingly simple, the contents are never that. Participating is a wide selection of artists, designers and craftspersons. Photo: Kari Nyyssönen
