Designer Juhani Salovaara's exhibition at Habitare

Professor, industrial designer Juhani Salovaara received the Kaj Franck Design Prize of 2016, awarded by Design Forum Finland, last November. Salovaara's prize exhibition will be on show at Habitare interior, design and furniture fair 13–17 September 2017, stand 6g68. The Kaj Franck Design Prize is one of the most notable design prizes in Finland and in 2016 it was awarded for the 25th time.

Professor, industrial designer Juhani Salovaara is one of Finland’s first designers to have specialised in industrial design since the beginning of his career. He has worked as a designer in many areas of industry and has been involved in introducing ergonomics and the principles of user-based design in Finland. Environmental issues have also been important to Juhani Salovaara. His work as a proponent of responsible design has expanded to actively taking account of environmental matters in design work.

Along with Juhani Salovaara's long and wide-ranging career, the prize jury especially appreciated his impact on design education. He was, among other things, one of the founders of the renowned IDBM (International Design Business Management) program at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, later Aalto University.

Juhani Salovaara's exhibition at Habitare, focusing on industrial design, is a cross-section of his career as a designer for more than four decades. On show are articles in serial production, photos, drawings and a few one-off pieces, too.

The Kaj Franck Design Prize, awarded by Design Forum Finland since 1992, is one of the most esteemed design prizes in Finland. It is awarded annually to a designer or team innovatively creating both high-quality industrial design and unique, one-off works. The aim of the prize is to bring forth the central principles of Kaj Franck's work: functional, beautiful and purposeful products for everyday use. The winners of the prize represent comprehensively top Finnish design. The prize sum of €10,000 is donated by the Finnish Fair Foundation.
