Fennia Prize 2012 design prize exhibition to Paris

The best Finnish industrial design on show at Cité des Sciences in Paris 18 April -1 September 2013

Finnish top design will get a large international audience when the Fennia Prize 2012 design prize exhibition will be on show at Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie during spring and summer 2013. Cité des Sciences in Villette in Paris is the biggest science museum in Europe, with around five million visitors every year.

The Fennia Prize, awarded every second year, is one of the biggest design prizes in Finland. The design competition awards companies for exemplary use of design. The competition is organized by Design Forum Finland, the promotion organization of Finnish design, and the Fennia Group. The Fennia Prize 2012 exhibition sparked the French APCI’s (French Agency for Promotion of Design) interest during Habitare furniture, interior decoration and design fair last September and received an invitation to Paris from APCI, together with Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie.

The winners of 2012 are excellent examples of the scale of today's design. Included are both consumer products, heavy industry, wellness and healthcare appliances as well as service and retail concepts. The Fennia Prize 2012 Grand Prix (15,000 €) went to Fingrid Plc, a company maintaining Finland's national electricity transmission grid, for the design of a new transmission tower. The receivers of the Fennia Prize of 5,000 € were four: The City of Helsinki was awarded for the new service and spatial concept for the Helsinki City Library. This development project is an excellent example of the new uses and clientele of design. The Home & Garden product concept of Kekkilä Oy offers high-standard, well-finished design for amateur gardeners. The Smarter Cabin crane cabin of Konecranes provides the crane operator with improved visibility of the work area and the ergonomic cabin has been a definite competitive asset for the company. The Nuoska sauna stoves of Tulikivi, traditional products of Finnish culture, were redesigned to suit modern-day spa culture. 23 Fennia Prize Honorary Mentions were further awarded in the competition.

The Fennia Prize 2012 exhibition in Paris presents all the 28 awarded products and product concepts. The exhibition architecture is by Muotohiomo.

On Designer's Days 7 June guided tours and a Round Table discussion will be organized in the exhibition.
