Icelandic and Finnish designers join forces and “move in together” in an apartment in central Stockholm for Stockholm Design Week 2015. The address is Regeringsgatan 86.
WE LIVE HERE is a combination of an exhibition and event space. The apartment will be decorated with works by leading contemporary Icelandic and Finnish designers, such as Harri Koskinen, Katrin Olina, Kustaa Saksi and Vík Prjónsdóttir, to name a few.
In addition, leading Swedish designers Monica Förster, TAF Architects, Färg & Blanche, Katrin Greiling and Form Us With Love will partake in the project to welcome their Nordic neighbours to their home country.
The exhibition focuses on the act of moving, playing with pairs of items, ‘doubles’ that often occur when two people move in together, and communicates the different themes that occur in Finnish and Icelandic design today. It is curated by Hlin Helga Guðlaugsdóttir, Elina Aalto and Marika Tesolin.
According to the curators, “Through carefully selected objects and projects we compare, contrast and communicate Icelandic and Finnish design languages, our material culture, design industry, current topics and approaches to design.
Through our work, certain strong themes started to emerge, forming pairs and groups within the home and guiding the selection process. This is by no means a complete rendering of the Finnish and Icelandic design scenes, but an attempt to paint the spectrum in broad strokes.
Our aim has been to highlight what is interesting now, rather than “newness” which tends to dominate design discussions, aspiring to reveal the strongest potentials and relevance of Finnish and Icelandic designers on the Nordic design scene today.”
Produced by the two national promotion agencies, Iceland Design Centre and Design Forum Finland, the project aims at exploring new ways to promote Nordic design.
Halla Helgadóttir, managing director of Iceland Design Centre says, “WE LIVE HERE is an important experiment in working with Nordic design collaboration on a practical level. We are taking the first steps to working more closely with our colleagues and bringing these sectors closer together within the Nordic region.
We, the Nordic design promotion agencies, all share the goal of advocating the Nordic design and way of life and partake in the discussion regarding our future on global level.”
The exhibition covers all aspects of design, just like design is incorporated in all aspects of our everyday life, including furniture, products, food and fashion.
