Laura Väinölä is Young Designer of the Year 2016

Design Forum Finland's Young Designer of the Year Prize of 2016 goes to designer, Creative Director Laura Väinölä (b. 1982).

Laura Väinölä is an outstanding example of a new-generation designer who works in a company as a design manager or creative director. The work calls for extensive and versatile expertise in the processes of both design and business – not forgetting creativity and an open mind. Managing a comprehensive and even expressive brand experience requires insight and courage. The prize jury considered Laura Väinölä an encouraging representative of a young designer in a role, which will be even more central in the future.

Design Forum Finland's Young Designer of the Year prize was instituted in 2000 and is now being awarded for the 15th time. The prize can be awarded to individuals or groups displaying new creative concepts and skills in design. The 5,000 euro prize is intended as professional encouragement for young designers to engage in uncompromising and distinctive work.

The jury for the prize of 2016 consisted of Creative, Partner Tiina Latva / Werklig, Chairman of the Board and Partner Mika Ståhlberg / Krogerus Oy, the Young Designer of the Year 2009 Mikko Laakkonen / Studio Mikko Laakkonen, and CEO Petteri Kolinen / Design Forum Finland. Krogerus is the main partner of the prize in 2016 and has supported it by donating the prize sum of 5,000 euros and supporting the exhibition arrangements.
