Kaj Franck Design Prize 2006

engineer, designer Olavi Lindén

The Kaj Franck Design Prize of 2006 goes to the engineer and designer Olavi Lindén (born 1946). Lindén has been head of product development and head designer at Fiskars Plc since 1984. In 2002 Finland’s National Council for Design awarded Lindén the State Design Prize, and in 2005 he was chosen Designer of the Year by the TKO Association of Industrial Designers. Also in 2005, pruning cutters designed by him received an honourable mention in the Fennia Prize competition and were awarded the Red Dot design prize in Germany.

The jury noted that during his career of over thirty years, Olavi Lindén has worked in the spirit of Kaj Franck, designing familiar, recognizable and safe products, which found a wide range of international buyers. Command of manufacturing technology, unforced choices of materials and interest in ergonomics are the cornerstones of design by Olavi Lindén. His innovative technical solutions are expressed as well-finished, simple and aesthetically pleasing products that also reflect love of nature.
