Kaj Franck Design Prize 2006:
Engineer, designer Olavi Lindén

Engineer and designer Olavi Lindén was head of product development and head designer at Fiskars Plc since the early 1980s.

In 2002 Finland’s National Council for Design awarded Lindén the State Prize of Design, and in 2005 he was chosen Industrial Designer of the Year by the TKO Association of Industrial Designers. Also in 2005, pruning cutters designed by him received an honourable mention in the Fennia Prize competition and were awarded the Red Dot design prize in Germany.

During his career of over thirty years, Olavi Lindén has worked in the spirit of Kaj Franck, designing familiar, recognizable and safe consumer products, which found a wide range of international buyers. Command of manufacturing technology, unforced choices of materials and interest in ergonomics are the cornerstones of Lindén's designs. His innovative technical solutions are expressed as well-finished, simple and aesthetically pleasing products that also reflect love of nature.
