Marja Suna is an accomplished artist and designer who has left an indelible mark in Finnish design for over five decades.
The prize jury noted that her work covers both mass produced items and unique pieces. The former is best represented by Suna's work in the Finnish clothing industry, in which her pioneering role as a fashion designer is undeniable. She has also worked in the footwear and jewellery industries and, in more recent times, shaped paper, precious metals and glass into unique works of art.
Marja Suna's work in the field has succeeded in balancing aesthetic values with the requirements of industrial production. Her work as a designer in many well-known Finnish companies has, at times, even determined their fate.
