Markku Salo is known as a technically versatile and artistically solid designer deeply versed in the possibilities of his material.
The skilled environment of the Nuutajärvi Glassworks generated both mass production and opportunities for artistic creativity. This is reflected in, among other things, the many glassmaking techniques developed by Salo during his career of over thirty years. He has gained attention for his achievements in forging new paths for glass art.
Markku Salo’s skills and achievement clearly came to the fore in his efforts on behalf of the Nuutajärvi Glass Village, when glass manufacturing at Nuutajärvi was threatened in the early 2000s. Together with other artists and glassblowers, Salo founded a new glasshouse, which has preserved the heritage of glassmaking and permitted the continuation of occupations in the glass sector.
