DESIGN FORUM talks are aimed at Finnish SME's that seek competitiveness and growth. Through case presentations and discussions DESIGN FORUM talks will share information about the uses of design expertise on various business areas.

Design Forum Talk <3 Circular Economy Day focused on the circular economy, its business models and circular design. In the morning, there were expert talks about sustainable growth and circular business models as well as case examples from companies that are already using design as a strategic tool for circular businesses.

In the afternoon, the experiences and benefits of the EcoDesign Sprint programme were presented. EcoDesign Sprint is an intensive 3-day training and acceleration programme targeted at SMEs and design agencies. For the SMEs, the Sprint is a concrete and rapid service/product development process furthering the company’s strategic goals. For the design agencies, the Sprint provides a great opportunity to learn and embed circular design principles into their own work. EcoDesign Sprint has been developed as part of the EcoDesign Circle project by Design Forum Finland.

sandra horlings

Sandra Horlings is a brand and innovation consultant. She is a member of Innoboost, the innovation cooperative creating profit to be proud of. She has been a consultant since 2008 and before that she was a member of the BBDO Board in the Netherlands and as managing director responsible for Proximity BBDO in Amsterdam. Sandra is a guest lecturer and corporate trainer. She is a member of Medinge, a think tank of brand experts and visionaries from around the world whose purpose is to influence business to become more human and conscious in order to help humanity progress and prosper. In the Netherlands she is a boardmember of Wereldmarketers, an expert platform endorsed by the Netherlands Institute of Marketing. She is a co-author and editor of 'Brands with a Conscience' - 2016 and author of 'Bridging the gap between branding, sustainability and consumer demands' - 2008. 

daniel kaufmann

Daniel Kaufmann is a circular economy and sharing economy expert. He works with different-sized companies and challenges the society to make systemic change – how can we decouple well-being and economic growth from natural resource use and increased emissions? At Sitra Daniel is responsible for the circular economy projects Sitra does with companies and the private sector. He has several years of experience in management consulting, focusing on finding competitive edge from sustainability. He has also been involved in founding start-up companies in Finland and Colombia, worked in research & development and studied in Argentina and Costa Rica.

In his projects Daniel has launched circular economy business models, defined corporate strategies and new operating models, used service design to create new ways of operating, sparred start-ups and lectured on competitive advantage or carbon handprint. Daniel also was a key player in the team that facilitated the birth of the Finnish roadmap to circular economy 2016-2025.

Nordic Service Director Kim Lyngaae is head of aftersales services and customer experience at Signify, formerly Philips Lighting. Before joining Philips Lighting in 2017 Kim held the position as Managing Director at InfoCare Services Denmark since 2011. Prior to his tenure at InfoCare he held various senior management positions in the IT industry. He specializes in product-to-services business transformation and has a particular focus on the advent of services in a circular economy.

ERIKA frankkila RYDJA

Erika Frankkila Rydja is Marketing Director, Northern Europe at Interface. She has over 15 years of experience from working in International businesses within Interior design, Telecom and IT. Currently Erika is a member of the management team of Interface Northern Europe, working with Interface sustainable, circular and innovative solutions contributing to inspiring interiors. Erika holds a Master Degree in Business Administration with focus on International Business.


Henrietta Kekäläinen is the co-founder and CEO of Carbo Culture, making biochar from orchard waste in California. Biochar is a carbon material which is primarily used in soil sustainability. It is a profitable way to sequester carbon, in a stable form, today.

She is a 2013 alumna of Singularity University’s flagship Global Solutions Program, and has received the Ruby Hero award. She’s one of the “32 Coolest Women in Nordic Tech 2018” and one of the IMAGE heroes of 2017 in Finland, and elected as a World Economic Forum global shaper.

DESIGN FORUM talk: Finnkampen presented Finnish and Swedish brand and design know-how. Swedish companies have succeeded in creating globally known and successful consumer brands. This year's second DESIGN FORUM talk presented again interesting speeches and inspiring cases by Tarja Pentila and Katja von Alfthan from TNS Gallup, Tim Hall from Fjord, Susanna Kinnari from Terveystalo, and Otso Koski from Nokia Technologies. The discussion was hosted by digitalist Ville Tolvanen. The event was organized in cooperation with Fjord.
