DESIGN FORUM SHOP CELEBRATED 20th ANNIVERSARY!

For the past 20 years, Design Forum Shop in the heart of Design District, next to Diana Park, has had an important role in marketing and promoting Finnish design and handicrafts. The shop is maintained by Design Forum Finland, i.e. the Finnish Society of Crafts and Design.
Design Forum Shop offers a transforming, versatile and unique collection of Finnish design: from contemporary design to classics, industrial design to unique one-offs. The Shop is a showcase for over 200 designers and companies – design that one will probably not find from anywhere else!
The year 2011 was filled with changes for the Shop. The extensive remodeling designed and implemented by the design agency Mozo Oy was completed in September. The renewed Shop has been built on a concept of a design village, where designers, design communities, companies as well as individual consumers interested in design can meet each other. The village concept is symbolized by the cottage-shaped shop furniture marking out the interior space. During the birthday party, we were also launching the new shop-in-shop concept, which will enable designers and design companies to present their items for a couple of months in the Shop’s premises.
The upcoming World Design Capital year 2012 will also be a busy period for the Shop. We will be running campaigns around a variety of themes throughout the year, always focusing on lifting up different materials and product categories from the Shop’s extensive collections. Our customer group will concentrate more than before on Helsinki’s habitants, not just on design tourists. The Shop’s collection will be extended especially in fashion and furniture, and we will also focus more on linking the exhibitions downstairs to the themes in the Shop.
Design Forum Shop offers a wide and continuously updated selection of Finnish design, from new releases to classics and from industrial design to unique, one-off products. We sell products by over 200 designers and manufacturers. We also stage topical design-related events. Design Forum Shop is an important sales channel for designers, and an opportunity for young designers to display their skills. For both Finnish and foreign media it is a place to find interesting contemporary Finnish design. We are continuously looking for new products and we help designers find the means for the right pricing and sales promotion of the products that we have chosen.
