The third Finnish Design Yearbook 201011
is now available. The publication contains a broad overview of both products, concepts, designers and manufacturers involved in contemporary Finnish design. In addition to presenting hundreds of products, it also discusses topical issues in design with articles by experts and interviews with leading actors in the field.
Primarily aimed at the international market, this book in English is an up-to-date reference work on design and an excellent idea for a corporate gift. Its international distribution will include bookstores, sales on the Web, design fairs and events, and the press. Running to over a hundred pages, the yearbook has an edition of 6,000.
The yearbook is published by Design Forum Finland, the promotion organization of Finnish design. The previous volume, Finnish Design Yearbook 0809, gained a great deal of international exposure in over 30 countries. Owing to its high visual standard, the yearbook was awarded in the Best of the Year 2008 competition for graphic design in Finland, and it was included in the Best-Designed Finnish Books of 2008 collection of the Finnish Book Arts Committee.
Among other issues, Finnish Design Yearbook 201011 explores design as a tool of business success, a means for creating a better life and a better society, an aid for the commodification of innovations, and as an aspect of self-expression. The yearbook also reflects coming events such as Expo 2010 in Shanghai and Helsinki's role as World Design Capital in 2012.
